BURCIN Past and Present
BURCIN, Bogazici University and Robert College(*) International Alumni Association, Inc., was founded in its current form in 2001 as a non-profit – 501(c)(3) – organization incorporated in the state of Texas. The origins of BURCIN date as far back as 1994 when a group of alumni living in the USA founded the society.
The mission of BURCIN is to help Bogazici University sustain an international standing as a world-class academic, research and cultural institution and to support the formation of close bonds between all members of the Bogazici community.
BURCIN is run by volunteers and in the past it has held networking activities, published a newsletter called Manzara, organized a network on yahoo and upheld ties within the Bogazici community in America.
The association has also supported Bogazici University’s quest for academic excellence. BURCIN works closely with Bogazici University Mezunlar Dernegi (BUMED) and Bogazici University Foundation (BUVAK). BURCIN grants supporting Bogazici University during the period 2000-2015 are close to $200,000 and were used to provide scholarships as well as funds for the renovation of Hamlin Hall, the oldest building on campus dating to 1868 named after the founder and first president of Robert College, Cyrus Hamlin.
A new board was elected in September 2009 and this board has set the priority to consolidate the ties among existing Bogazici Community initiatives and to use BURCIN as a platform for alumni activities throughout the USA. We welcome your ideas for events, projects and future activities.
